Zero tolerance for violence, warns Siliguri Police Commissioner after poll results

Siliguri, 06th May: Taking a strict stance over possible post-poll violence, Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza said that any form of violence will not be tolerated and action will be taken under a “zero tolerance” policy.

Addressing a press conference at the Siliguri Metropolitan Police office, he stated that celebrating victory is a democratic right, but no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands. Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disturb the situation.

He said maintaining peace after the election results is the administration’s top priority. Additional police forces have been deployed across all police station areas, and sensitive zones are under constant surveillance.

The Commissioner informed that two incidents of violence have been reported in Siliguri so far, with eight people arrested. However, no direct links to any specific political party have been established.

He appealed to the public to avoid rumours and maintain peace, warning that those indulging in violence under the guise of celebration will not be spared.

Meanwhile, district administration and CRPF officials also stressed the need to maintain a peaceful environment, stating that the election process was conducted smoothly.
