Siliguri, 05th August: The Bangiya Hindu Mahamancha has raised concerns over alleged irregularities at several pubs and bars in Siliguri and demanded an investigation by the administration. The organisation claimed that various complaints, including allegations of underage entry and serving of alcohol to minors, have surfaced against some pubs in the city.
At a press conference held at Siliguri Journalists’ Club on Wednesday, Bangiya Hindu Mahamancha President Bikramaditya Mondal raised several allegations against multiple pubs in the city and urged the administration to investigate the matter.
He alleged that during a birthday celebration of a pub owner at a pub located inside Acropolis Mall in Siliguri, a photograph of the owner with a West Bengal minister was displayed on a screen. He claimed that such displays were being used to project influence by showing connections with powerful individuals, which he said was unacceptable.
He further alleged that several pubs in Sevoke Road and Matigara areas were involved in illegal activities. He also claimed that some pubs at Planet Mall were involved in activities such as escort services and prostitution.
Mondal also alleged that some pubs allow entry to people below 18 years of age. Addressing parents, he urged them to remain vigilant and ensure proper guidance for their children.
He further claimed that banners and social media posts featuring phrases like “Free Shots for Ladies” were seen outside some pubs and on social media platforms. According to him, such promotions were an attempt to attract women in an inappropriate manner. He also alleged that some pubs continue to operate beyond the permitted hours.
The Bangiya Hindu Mahamancha has urged the police administration to look into the matter and take necessary action. The organisation also claimed that some pubs post objectionable photos and videos on social media, which they said have a negative impact on society.
