Siliguri, 21st June: Sensation prevailed after the body of a young man was recovered from Disha Foundation, a drug rehabilitation centre, at Debidanga near Champasari in Siliguri. The deceased has been identified as Suman Banerjee. After the incident, the family of the deceased lodged a murder charge against the said centre.
Suman’s father Sadhan Banerjee said that his son was admitted to the centre to recover from drugs addiction. Allegedly, last Sunday, they were informed that Suman had committed suicide by hanging himself at the centre. Upon reaching the spot, they found his body hanging from a noose in the bathroom. Although the family alleged it to be a case of murder, the Disha Foundation authorities denied all allegations.
Meanwhile, Dilip Ghosh, a social activist, reached the spot after receiving the news of the incident. He said that at present many de-addiction centres have been opened in the city. He advised the administration to keep strict monitoring in these centres.
On the other hand, the Pradhan Nagar police recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy. The police have started an investigation into the whole incident.
