Jalpaiguri, 28th August: The Jalpaiguri District Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his friend. The court has also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on the convict.
The incident took place on October 15, 2015, in Chamurchi Forest Basti in the Dooars. According to the case, Runas Dorjee allegedly attacked his friend Premchand Lohar with a sharp weapon while they were playing ‘Kori’, resulting in his death.
Following the incident, Banarhat Police arrested the accused.
The case continued in court for nearly 11 years. Based on the testimonies of 16 witnesses and various pieces of evidence presented during the trial, Runas Dorjee was found guilty.
On Friday, the Jalpaiguri District Court sentenced him to life imprisonment with rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000.
