Siliguri, 25th May: In yet another anti-narcotics operation in Siliguri, a youth was arrested with brown sugar worth several lakhs from Burdwan Road area by Khalpara Outpost police.
The accused has been identified as Sahid Ansari (30), a resident of Kishanganj. According to police sources, he was arrested with around 101 grams of brown sugar during a raid conducted by the Anti-Crime Wing of Khalpara Outpost based on a tip-off.
During the operation on Burdwan Road, police detained the suspect and searched his bag, following which packets containing brown sugar were recovered. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is said to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had arrived in Siliguri from Kishanganj by bus and was allegedly waiting on Burdwan Road to hand over the consignment to another person. However, police arrested him before the delivery could take place.
The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri court. Police are further investigating the drug trafficking network and trying to identify others involved in the racket and the extent of its operations.
