Siliguri, 25th July: Matigara Police arrested a youth with banned cough syrup and a large quantity of substance abuse items during a raid in the Matigara area. The arrested person has been identified as Tsering Lama (35), a resident of Krishnanagar in Mirik.
According to police sources, they received information late Friday night about a suspicious youth carrying substance abuse items near a playground in the Matigara area. Acting on the information, police conducted a raid and detained the youth.
During a search, police recovered 17 bottles of banned cough syrup and 176 capsules from his possession. Following this, the accused was arrested and taken to Matigara Police Station.
During the preliminary investigation, police found that the accused was allegedly transporting the items to the hill areas after procuring them from Siliguri.
A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act. He was produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday. Police are seeking custody to investigate the alleged network and identify others involved in the case. Further investigation is underway.
