Siliguri, 21st August: A membership programme was organised by the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee at Mitra Sammilani Hall in Siliguri, where several workers and supporters joined the Congress in the presence of party leaders.
West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee In-Charge Prakash Joshi welcomed the new members into the party by handing them Congress flags. West Bengal Pradesh Congress President Shubhankar Sarkar was also present at the programme.
Congress leaders claimed that amid the current political situation in the state, public trust and support for the party are gradually increasing.
The state Congress leadership described the membership programme in Siliguri, an important city in North Bengal, as significant for the party. The party believes the new members will play an important role in strengthening its organisational base in North Bengal in the coming days.
