Siliguri, 21st August: Women staged a protest at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Friday over not receiving benefits under the Annapurna Yojana.
The protesters alleged that before coming to power, the government had promised to provide financial assistance under the Annapurna Yojana to all eligible women. However, nearly three months after the scheme was announced, many women are still not receiving the money, they claimed.
The protesters further alleged that even after completing the application process online, they were being asked to contact the concerned department offline citing various issues. They claimed that despite approaching the government offices as instructed, their problems remained unresolved.
The women demanded that the Annapurna Yojana benefits be provided to eligible beneficiaries at the earliest as promised.
Tension reportedly arose at the SMC premises during the protest.
