Siliguri, 21st August: The sharp rise in sugar prices has directly affected the sweets market in Siliguri, with prices of popular sweets such as rasgulla, langcha increasing. The price rise has left both buyers and sellers concerned.
Sweet shop owners said they were forced to increase prices after sugar became more expensive in the wholesale market. They said the rise in sugar prices has significantly increased production costs, leading to higher prices for sweets.
One sweet shop owner said they were trying to keep the price increase as low as possible keeping customers in mind, but their profit margins were being affected. He added that prices of milk and other raw materials have also increased.
The shop owner warned that if prices are not brought under control soon, sweet prices could rise further in the coming days.
Meanwhile, customers said the sudden increase in prices was making it difficult for them to buy sweets.
