Youth arrested with 700 gm of gold biscuits in Burdwan Road

Siliguri, 27th July: DRI and Custom PNI Unit jointly arrested a youth with gold biscuits worth Rs 35 lakh 66 thousand by conducting a campaign on Siliguri’s Burdwan Road. The arrested youth has been identified as Rohit Kumar, a resident of Samastipur in Bihar. Six pieces of gold biscuits weighing 700gms were recovered from his possession.


In this context, Ratan Banik maintained that acting on a tip-off, the PNI unit of DRI and Customs nabbed the youth on Tuesday from the NBSTC bus coming from Cooch Behar to Siliguri on Burdwan Road. Upon searching, six pieces of gold biscuits were recovered from the youth.


Today, the accused Rohit Kumar was presented in the Siliguri court after registering a case under the Customs Act for illegal smuggling of gold. However, the Siliguri court has granted bail application to the accused.
