Youth allegedly kidnapped by TMC activists, party’s Darjeeling District President Papia Ghosh meets family

Siliguri, 21st January: With the Siliguri Municipal Corporation elections just around the corner, the last thing any political party would desire is being a part of a scandal or being in the limelight over allegations. It came as a major shock when the NJP police, on Thursday, arrested three people including two activists of Trinamool Congress in connection to a kidnapping case of a youth in Siliguri. The arrested have been identified as Ratan Paul, Tapan Das and Raja Singh.


As per the information, the two TMC activists, Ratan Paul and Tapan Das had earlier been spotted in the election campaign of Trinamool candidate Pratul Chakraborty of Ward No. 24.

After the matter came to light, Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress’s President Papia Ghosh and Trinamool youth president Kuntal Roy reached the youth’s house in Bhaktinagar today to meet his family members.


Ghosh claimed that the duo was not holding any post in the party and that they were just with the party for their own benefits.

It is to recall, the boy was abducted from the Bhaktinagar area on January 13. The trio allegedly called the youth’s family and demanded Rs 40 lakh ransom. The family lodged a complaint at the NJP police station on January 15. Acting promptly, the police arrested the said three men on Thursday.

According to police sources, the men hid the youth in a house in Siliguri’s Deshbandhu Para area. The arrest was made with the help of CCTV footage and tracking the mobile phones.
