Fire safety inspection conducted at hotels and lodges near NJP Railway Station in Siliguri

Siliguri, 22nd August: Fire Department officials conducted inspections at several hotels and lodges near New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station in Siliguri on Saturday as part of a drive to check fire safety measures.

The inspections come amid increased scrutiny of fire safety arrangements at hotels and lodges across West Bengal following major fires at a hotel in Kolkata, and another hotel in Tarapith.

During the inspection, fire officials visited several hotels and lodges and examined various aspects of their fire safety arrangements. Hotel rooms were inspected to check whether windows could be opened properly during an emergency, while electrical equipment and connections were also examined.

Officials found several shortcomings in the fire safety arrangements at some hotels and lodges and instructed the establishments to rectify them at the earliest.

The officials also checked whether fire extinguishers installed at the hotels were within their validity period and in working condition. The availability of adequate water supply and other necessary fire safety infrastructure was also inspected.
