Cooch Behar, 1st January: A distressing incident surfaced from the Singimari area of Cooch Behar where a woman committed suicide following alleged harassment by her in-laws. The deceased has been identified as Sumana Barman (20).
According to reports, on Sunday night, the hanging body of the woman was recovered from the residence and taken to Cooch Behar’s MJN Medical College and Hospital, however, she was declared dead by the medical professionals.
Family sources revealed that Sumana and Indrajeet were engaged in a relationship. Subsequently, they got married about two years ago and had a child. They added that after six months of the marriage, Sumana’s in-laws allegedly began torturing her mentally for dowry which prompted her to take the extreme step.
After the incident, the family members filed a written complaint at the police station. At present, the police have initiated an investigation into the entire matter.
