Woman found dead; family alleges murder by in-laws over dowry in Siliguri

Siliguri, 13th April: Siliguri’s man and his family have been accused of killing his wife in over dowry demand. The deceased has been identified as Chainika Paul.

According to sources, Chainika, a resident of Pal Para – Matigada, fell in love and married Chandan Paul, a resident of Shiva temple, in November last year.

The family members of the deceased alleged that after marriage, Chandan and his family used to torture Chainika for dowry. A few days ago, she took 30 thousand rupees from her parents.

As per her family members, on Saturday, Chandan informed them that Chainika fell after feeling nauseous. Upon hearing this, her mother rushed to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital where she was notified that her daughter was dead. She also found out that the accused husband and in-law allegedly fled away with Chainika’s dead body. The mother of the deceased then filed a written complaint at the Matigara police station with the help of the locals.

The police recovered the body and sent it to NBMCH for post-mortem. However, all the accused are absconding since the incident.

According to NBMCH sources, ligature marks on the neck of the deceased and injuries have also been found on the body. Police are investigating the entire incident.
