Siliguri, 23rd February: In a shocking incident of theft, a woman was charged with theft of cash and jewellery under the guise of working as a housekeeper. The accused Rupa Sarkar was successfully arrested after the NJP police identified the woman with the aid of the CCTV footage.
According to reports, Rupa Sarkar has been working as a housekeeper in several residences for a long time. It has been reported that during her work she would steal cash and jewellery from the houses. Meanwhile, there was an ongoing issue of frequent theft in several houses under the jurisdiction of the NJP police station. As the incident came to light, the accused Rupa Sarkar gradually fell under suspicion.
On the other hand, the NJP police received a formal complaint regarding theft. Subsequently, the police initiated an investigation based on the complaint and examined the CCTV footage. During the investigation, the police found that the entire incident of theft was recorded in the CCTV camera installed in the area prompting the arrest of accused Rupa Sarkar.
On Saturday, the accused has been produced in Jalpaiguri court. Additionally, the police will take the woman on remand in an effort to recover the stolen items. The residents of the house reached the NJP police station and mentioned that the accused woman used to work in several houses and had stolen jewellery worth lakhs of rupees.
