Woman alleges assault and gold chain snatching by tenants in Siliguri’s Ward No. 38

Siliguri, 25th June: Tension gripped the Purba Vivekananda Pally area of Ward No. 38 in Siliguri after a woman alleged that she was assaulted and her gold chain was snatched by tenants residing in her house.

According to reports, Anil Mondal, Babli Mondal and Koel Mondal had moved into the house of local resident Sadhan Chandra Saha as tenants around three months ago. While relations between the two parties were initially normal, a dispute reportedly broke out a few days ago over the use of the courtyard.

The family alleged that on Thursday, the tenants called Saha’s wife, Jamuna Saha, to their room and asked her to sit down. During the conversation, they allegedly covered her eyes and mouth with a black cloth and threatened her by claiming that an armed person was standing behind her.

The family further alleged that the accused snatched a gold chain from Jamuna Saha’s neck and physically assaulted her during the incident.

Following the incident, Jamuna Saha received primary treatment at Siliguri District Hospital. Subsequently, a written complaint was lodged at Ashighar Outpost.

The incident triggered tension in the locality, with local residents gathering and expressing anger against the accused. On receiving information, police reached the spot and detained the three accused for questioning.
