Siliguri, 09th August: Siliguri’s Central Colony Durga Puja Committee has begun preparations for the 64th edition Durga Puja with ‘Khutti Puja’. Despite a change in venue this year, the Central Colony Durga Puja Committee is hopeful that the festival will retain its traditional appeal and attract a large number of visitors.
The puja was traditionally held at a ground where construction work for a railway stadium is currently underway. The development had raised uncertainty over the organisation of the annual celebration at its usual location.
However, overcoming the challenges, the committee has decided to continue the tradition at a new venue. This year, the 64th Central Colony Durga Puja will be held at the Barrack Colony ground, adjacent to the NJP Police Station.
The organisers have planned an attractive pandal for visitors, with special arrangements in both decoration and lighting. The committee is also preparing several surprises as part of this year’s celebrations.
The ‘Khutti Puja’ was performed on Sunday following traditional rituals.
Sourav Nath, Secretary of the Puja Committee, said the festival is being organised despite various challenges to uphold the long-standing tradition.
He added that the change in venue would not affect the appeal of the Puja and expressed hope that this year’s celebration would draw an even larger crowd than in previous years.
