Siliguri, 09th August: Serious allegations of an alleged attempt to grab land have been levelled against BJP leader Nantu Paul during the ‘Sorasori Shankar’ programme in Siliguri.
Dipanwita Paul, a resident of Deshbandhu Para in Ward No. 29, approached Minister Shankar Ghosh alleging an attempt to forcibly occupy their land.
According to Dipanwita, her family owns a plot in Rajni Bagan near Hill Cart Road, with seven legal heirs having rights over the property.
She claimed that an agreement for the sale of the land was signed with Nantu Paul’s mother in 1999, but the registration of the property was never completed.
Dipanwita alleged that the land dispute has resurfaced after several years and that Nantu Paul lodged a complaint against them at the police station. She also alleged that a lock was placed on the property.
She further claimed that several of the present heirs were unaware of the 1999 agreement and that she faced questions when she approached the police station regarding the matter.
Nantu Paul, however, rejected the allegations as completely false. He claimed that the disputed land was his mother’s ancestral property and that an agreement concerning the land had already been made.
Nantu Paul further said that based on the agreement, he wanted to purchase the land by paying its fair value. He claimed that discussions with the concerned parties had continued for a long time but no solution had been reached.
Minister Shankar Ghosh said he had asked the complainant to submit a written complaint and added that the party would take a decision if the allegations were found to be true.
