Kharibari, 09th August: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) rescued a minor girl from the Indo-Nepal border in Kharibari and arrested a man allegedly involved in an attempt to traffic her to Nepal on the pretext of providing her with a job. The arrested person has been identified as Rabiul Islam.
According to sources, the incident came to light on Saturday when SSB personnel were conducting routine checking along the border and intercepted a four-wheeler. A minor girl was found inside the vehicle. During questioning, SSB personnel also questioned the driver, following which details of the alleged plan emerged.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver had allegedly lured the minor girl with the promise of providing her with employment and was attempting to take her across the border into Nepal.
The accused driver was subsequently detained and handed over to Kharibari police. Police registered a case under multiple sections and formally arrested him in connection with the incident. The name of a woman has also reportedly surfaced during the investigation.
Police have seized the four-wheeler used in the incident, while the rescued minor girl has been sent to a shelter home for her safety.
Rabiul Islam was produced before the Siliguri court on Sunday. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
