Without street lights, Mahananda River Ghat turn into a haven for criminals

Siliguri, 18th July: The former Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya had planned to refurbish and repair the Mahananda River Ghat of Siliguri. As per the planning, Mahananda River Ghat was to be remodelled as Kolkata’s Babughat. However, after the municipal elections, the SMC is being looked after by the Trinamool Congress.

Locals alleged that most of the street lights installed along the Mahananda River Ghat are damaged and not functioning. They further added that every evening, miscreants gather at the place and anti-social activities have increased.

In this context, Siliguri Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar stated that the issue has been informed to the police. He assured to fix the lights soon.
