Wild tuskers brought back from Bangladesh in Phansidewa to be released into the forest

Phansidewa, 23rd February: The two wild elephants that had crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border and entered Bangladesh were successfully brought back to the forest in Phansidewa. The forest officials took the assistance of ‘Kunki’ elephants to bring the animals back into the forest.


According to reports, the ‘Kunki’ elephants were brought from the Garumara sanctuary on Friday to safely transport the two wild elephants in the port of border at Phansidewa to the forest. The work was undertaken by the team of Bengal Safari Park in collaboration with the Kurseong and Baikunthpur forest departments.

It should be noted that two elephants had previously emerged from the Baikunthpur forest and entered Bangladesh. Later, the elephants were brought back to India with the help of the Forest Department. However, despite returning to India, the elephants could not be brought back to the forest. As a result, the Forest Department undertook the work of transporting the elephants to the forest with the aid of ‘Kunki’ elephants.
