Malda, 20th February: 40-year-old Jagannath Mandal, was allegedly killed by his wife and her lover. The incident occurred in the Shiban Tola village area under Malda’s Manikchak police station area.
However, the two accused have been absconding since the incident.
In this regard, Jagannath Mandal’s mother stated that her son is a laborer by profession. She further alleged that Jagannath’s wife was involved in a love affair with Manoj, a local of the area. The matter came into light recently when Jagannath returned home one day. This led to frequent quarrels between the couple.
However, last night, Jagannath’s wife and Manoj allegedly poured kerosene all over Jagannath’s body and tried to set him on fire.
Meanwhile, the neighbors rescued him and rushed him to a local health centre and later admitted him to the Malda Medical College-Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to hospital sources, 90 % percent of his body has been burnt. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
