Villagers in Rajganj depend on fragile bamboo bridge to cross Dahuk River

Rajganj, 23rd November: With the absence of a concrete bridge over the Dahuk River, residents of five villages namely Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat’s Chaturgachh, Jummagachh, Dilugachh, Koyarbari, and Nabagram rely on the fragile bamboo bridge to cross the river during their daily commute. Besides, movement in the evening is also restricted on the adjacent CPWD road.

The said villages of Rajganj’s Sannyasikata gram panchayat are adjacent to the India-Bangladesh border. Reportedly, the Dahuk River is situated in the middle of the main road. However, the absence of a bridge creates difficulty for the residents to cross the river.

The locals say they face extreme difficulties during the monsoons as the weak bridge cannot stand the flow of water. They further alleged that many outsiders hesitate to visit their villages because of the lack of bridges and the dilapidated roads.

Apparently, public representatives as well as the Gram Panchayat authorities have been informed in this context but to no avail. Locals alleged that the leaders are spotted visiting their village assuring them to construct a bridge only before the polls.

In this regard, Rajganj MLA Khageshwar Roy said that he inspected the bamboo bridge, a few days ago. He further stated that efforts are being made to construct a bridge soon.
