Vehicular movement over Bailey Bridge on Balasan resumes after a month; bridge inaugurated by DM and MLA

Siliguri, 03rd December: After a month, vehicular movement over Bailey Bridge on Matigara-Balasan commenced from today. District Magistrate S Ponnambalam and Matigara Naxalbari MLA Anandamoy Barman inaugurated the bridge by cutting the ceremonial red ribbon. Administrative officers including BoA members of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Ranjan Sarkar, Alok Chakraborty were present on the occasion.


At present, the movement of two-wheelers, passenger vehicles, three-wheeled vehicles are being allowed on the bridge. However, to control traffic on the bridge, traffic signals, barricades and large number of traffic police have been deployed over the Bailey Bridge to keep the movement normal. Furthermore, Balasan Outpost Traffic Point looked after by a Sub-inspector rank officer has also been set up near the bridge for security purposes.

There is a complete ban on the movement of goods (small and big) vehicles, army trucks, big buses travelling to other the states and buses up to 42 seaters over the bridge. An exemption has been given only on the movement of school buses on the bridge.
