Siliguri, 14th July: On Thursday Van Mahotsav was celebrated under the aegis of Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Baikunthpur Forest Department at Baghajatin Park. The program will run for six days till July 20.
During the program, Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Ranjan Sarkar, forest officers, and members of social organizations were present.
Ranjan Sarkar stated that climate change and global warming are a huge concern at present time. Therefore to balance the change in the environment, trees will be planted during the Van Mahotsav. Also, the use of plastic carry bags and various products made of thermocol will have to be permanently stopped, he added.
