Two ivory tusks weighing 24 kg recovered by Belakoba forest officials, two arrested

Rajganj, 28th July: In a major breakthrough, the Belakoba forest officials arrested two persons and seized two ivory tusks weighing 24 kilograms from their possession. The accused have been identified as Govinda Pradhan and Bikash Lama, residents of Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. 


The forest workers under the leadership of Ranger Sanjay Dutta launched an operation in Oodlabari area on Wednesday evening after receiving a tip-off. During the mission, the team apprehended two bike-borne men while they were smuggling the ivory tusks which had apparently been brought from Assam. The consignment was to be sold in Nepal for about Rs 60 lakh. The duo was produced in the Jalpaiguri district court today.
