Two held for extorting money using Bimal Gurung’s name

Siliguri, 21st July: The Cyber ​​Crime branch of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate arrested two youths for extorting money using Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) founder President Bimal Gurung’s name. The arrested accused have been identified as Deepesh Trikhatri and Tara Pariyar, of Kalimpong.


It has been learned that a few days ago, Deepesh called the authorities of a private college in Dagapur, posing himself as Bimal Gurung’s associate and demanded Rs 1 lakh from the college authorities as party fund. Accordingly, the payment was done by the college. Following this, Deepesh started pressuring for more money.

Upon suspicion, a written complaint was lodged at the Cyber ​​Crime Police station, a few days ago, on behalf of the college. The police launched investigations and arrested two youths from Kalimpong on Tuesday night.


As per the information, the account number to which the college paid the amount was that of Tara Pariyar. Apparently, Deepesh Trikhatri was arrested in 2018 on the charges of extorting money under the pretense of GJM leader Binay Tamang. The duo was produced at the Siliguri court today.
