Siliguri, 27th August: Matigara Police have arrested a truck driver for allegedly attempting to smuggle sand extracted illegally from the Balason River. The arrested accused has been identified as Ajay Sahani (30), a resident of Ward No. 43 in Siliguri.
According to police sources, Matigara Police conducted an operation at the Balason River on Wednesday night based on information received about illegal sand extraction. During the operation, police stopped a truck loaded with sand and conducted a check.
Police asked the driver to produce valid documents related to the extraction and transportation of the sand. However, he allegedly failed to provide any documents.
The driver was subsequently arrested on charges of illegally extracting sand. Police also seized the sand-laden truck.
The arrested accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday. Matigara Police are investigating the case.
