Siliguri, 27th July: A joint operation by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and plainclothes police of Matigara Police Station led to the arrest of two alleged drug traffickers with around 300 grams of brown sugar in Siliguri.
The arrested persons have been identified as Saidul Islam and Sachin Thakur.
According to police sources, the accused had allegedly concealed a packet of brown sugar inside a media player system and brought it from Malda to Siliguri for delivery. The consignment was reportedly to be handed over at Paribahan Nagar in Matigara.
Acting on information, police detained the two suspects from a secluded area inside the Paribahan Nagar bus stand.
During the search, police recovered a media player system from a vegetable bag carried by Saidul Islam. On opening it, officers found a packet containing around 300 grams of brown sugar hidden inside.
During the preliminary investigation, police found that Saidul Islam had allegedly transported the brown sugar from Malda, while Sachin Thakur, a resident of Kishanganj in Bihar, had allegedly arrived to receive the consignment.
Both accused were produced before the Siliguri court, and Matigara Police sought their custody for further investigation.
