Two arrested with 300 bottles of banned cough syrup in Siliguri

Siliguri, 04th November: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Pradhan Nagar police station arrested two individuals with a huge quantity of banned cough syrup. The arrested accused have been identified as Ranjit Mahato, a resident of Pradhan Nagar, and Kamal Biswas, a local of Bagdogra.


As per reports, on Saturday, Ranjit arrived near Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashram, adjacent to Siliguri Junction, to deliver the banned cough syrup held in two bags. Simultaneously, Kamal arrived from Bagdogra to receive the items. Upon receiving the news, the SOG and Pradhan Nagar Police launched a joint operation in the said area and searched both individuals, based on suspicion.

During this, 300 bottles of banned cough syrup, with an estimated market value of about 1 lakh rupees, were recovered from the bags. Subsequently, both the accused were arrested on charges of smuggling. Interrogations revealed that Ranjit Mahato had called Kamal Vishwas to arrive from Bagdogra to receive the banned items. The accused will be produced before the Siliguri court on Sunday. Meanwhile, the police are engaged in further investigation.
