Siliguri, 18th May: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested two persons after recovering 1.5 kg of brown sugar from their possession near PC Mittal Bus Stand on Sunday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of SOG and Bhakti Nagar Police Station plainclothes personnel carried out an operation in the area. During the raid, police intercepted two individuals on a motorcycle and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of the contraband. The arrested persons have been identified as Minajur Rahman (22) of Malda and MD Sagir (50) of Naxalbari.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Minajur Rahman brought the narcotics from Malda to Naxalbari, from where both accused proceeded towards PC Mittal Bus Stand for a suspected delivery deal. Police said the duo was waiting for a customer when they were caught red-handed during the operation.
Both accused have been booked under the NDPS Act and produced before the Jalpaiguri court for police remand.
