Two arrested in two cases of theft in Siliguri, stolen items recovered

Siliguri, 05th November: In a major breakthrough, the Matigara police have successfully resolved two different cases of theft following two arrests. The accused thieves have been identified as Chhoden Dewan from Salbari and Basirul Sheikh from Matigara’s Biswas Colony area.


According to reports, on October 31, a miscreant broke into a vacant house in the Patharghata area and made off with a valuable gold chain. The incident came to light on Saturday when the family arrived home and discovered the theft. Following this, Grace Thapa, the owner of the residence, filed a written complaint at the Matigara police station. During the investigation, the accused youth, Chhoden Dewan was taken into custody on Saturday night. In addition to interrogating the suspect, the police recovered the stolen gold chain.

In another incident of theft, a two-wheeler was reportedly stolen from the area adjacent to the Mayadevi Club on October 26. Following the theft, the bike owner lodged a written complaint at the Matigara police station. As a result, on Saturday morning, the accused Basirul Sheikh from Matigara’s Vishwas Colony area was taken into custody by the police while they investigated the case based on the allegation. Subsequently, the stolen vehicle was also recovered from his possession. On Sunday, both the accused have been presented before the Siliguri court. The police are currently probing into the entire incident.
