Two arrested for smuggling wood under piles of tyres in Rajganj

Rajganj, 24th December: Forest officials of Belakoba range recovered Burma teak wood worth about Rs 50 lakh while it was being smuggled. Two people, identified as Bhola Ram and Jitendra Kumar, have been arrested in this incident. Both are said to be residents of Bihar. 


The forest personnel led by Belakoba Ranger Sanjay Dutta intercepted a truck in Fulbari area this morning. During the search, a huge quantity of wood was recovered from the truck and the driver and his assistant were immediately taken into custody. 


According to sources, the wood was hidden under piles of tyres and was being smuggled. During interrogation, it was learned that the wood was being transported from Guwahati to Kolkata. The accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri district court tomorrow. The forest department is probing the entire incident.
