Siliguri, 26th August: The Siliguri Women Police Station has arrested the mother-in-law and father-in-law of a woman doctor following allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault and an attempt to burn her by pouring kerosene.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Saraswati Barman (58) and Atia Barman (65). Both were arrested from Hemtabad and produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday.
Earlier, police had arrested the woman doctor’s husband, Dr Subrata Barman, from Jalpaiguri in connection with the case.
The complainant, Dr Asha Mishra, lodged a complaint at the Women Police Station on July 2. She alleged that she had been subjected to mental and physical harassment after her marriage over demands for dowry and money.
She further alleged that on May 13, 2026, an attempt was made to burn her alive by pouring kerosene on her.
According to police, the investigation is underway, and the role of other members of the woman’s in-laws’ family is also being examined.
