Siliguri, 26th August: The dilapidated condition of the Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Flyover in Siliguri has become a major concern for commuters, with potholes developing at several points along the flyover. Residents say the damaged road is causing difficulties for daily commuters and increasing the risk of accidents.
The situation becomes more difficult during the monsoon. Even light rain causes water to accumulate in the potholes, making it difficult for commuters to identify their size and depth. Motorists, as well as bike and scooter riders, are facing particular difficulties while crossing the flyover.
The flyover is used daily by a large number of people, including school students, college students, office-goers and other commuters. Apart from small vehicles, buses and other heavy vehicles also use the flyover regularly, with the damaged road affecting the smooth movement of traffic.
Local residents said the flyover is quite old and requires greater attention to maintenance and road repairs. They alleged that although potholes have developed at several points over a long period, permanent repairs have not been carried out.
Residents have urged the administration and concerned departments to take immediate action, repair the potholes and ensure the important flyover is made safer for daily commuters.
