Two arrested for smuggling timber in Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri, 14th September: The Moraghat Range forest workers of Gayerkata arrested two people on charges of smuggling timber. The arrested accused have been identified as Jyoti Prakash Minz and Mahendra Ekka.


It has been learned that on Monday night, ACF Bipasha Parul and Ranger Raj Kumar Paul of Moraghat Range went on a routine check at CJM-3 compartment of Khuttimari Bit. After hearing the sounds of cutting down trees inside the forest, a search was conducted. Following this, the said duo was arrested in the incident.

According to the forest department, a group of 25 timber smugglers was cutting down trees in the forest. Due to a limited number of forest workers present at the spot, only two of them could be caught. They were sent to Banarhat police station last night and were produced in Jalpaiguri district court today.
