Two arrested for attempted robbery after intoxicating toto driver’s tea in Kharibari

Kharibari, 30th November: An incident of attempted robbery surfaced where a toto driver was allegedly robbed after being intoxicated by his tea in Kharibari. Following the incident, two individuals were arrested in connection to the incident. The arrested accused have been identified as Nazrul Islam and Janab Ali, residents of Fulbari and NJP areas.


According to reports, on Wednesday afternoon, two individuals were traveling in a toto owned by Dilip Chhetri in Panitanki under Kharibari police station. During the journey, both the passengers allegedly took Dilip to a tea shop in the Kilaghata area of Kharibari, infused his tea with drugs, and offered him to drink. Consequently, Dilip fell unconscious. In the meantime, the passenger pair dropped Dilip Chhetri off in a tea garden in Bagdogra and made an attempt to escape with his toto.

During routine patrolling, the cops of Bagdogra police station noticed the incident and arrested one of the accused in the act. Subsequently, the other accused was also arrested. In this regard, the toto driver alleged that the miscreants took him to a deserted tea garden area to kill him.


Dilip’s brother Pradeep Chhetri stated that his elder brother left for Kilaghata after hearing about the fare. However, as there was no news of him till late at night and his mobile phone was switched off, they were concerned for his safety. He added that he was alerted about the incident after questioning other individuals. Furthermore, he lauded the role of the police for his brother’s safety.
