Two arrested for alleged theft of government property in Siliguri

Siliguri, 17th March: In a recent development, the Matigara police apprehended two individuals from Siliguri on charges of stealing government property a month after the filing of the complaint. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Firoz and Mohammad Moti.


Police sources revealed that three e-rickshaws were deployed for work under a government project in the Tulsi Nagar area. During this, the miscreants made off with items including the e-rickshaw’s battery, motor, and other project-related materials. Following this, a formal complaint regarding the theft was lodged on January 31, prompting the police to launch an inquiry. Subsequently, during the police investigation, Mohammad Firoz was apprehended from Tulsi Nagar on Saturday night.

Following Firoz’s interrogation, Mohammad Moti, the owner of a scrap shop in Jhankar More, was also arrested. Both suspects were brought before the Siliguri court, where they were remanded in police custody for five days. At present, the police are engaged in further investigation of the matter.
