Triveni COVID hospital to be upgraded to 180 beds from 150 by next week: Anit Thapa

Darjeeling, 01st May: Former Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Chairman and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Binay faction) General Secretary Anit Thapa released a video on Saturday addressing the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the hills.


In the video, Thapa talked welcomed the decision of the state government and the matching notice released by GTA Principal Secretary, Surendra Gupta to impose partial lockdown in the state as well as the GTA area.

As per the directives:
1) All shopping complexes, malls, beauty parlous, cinema halls, restaurants and bars, sports complexes, gyms, spas, and swimming pools shall remain closed (even while home deliveries and online services shall remain permitted).


2)All social/cultural/academic/entertainment-related gatherings and congregations shall remain prohibited.

3)Bazaars/hats will remain open only from 7-10 am and 3-5 pm (even while essential services like medical shops, medical equipment shops, grocery, etc. will remain outside the confines of the embargo).

Further addressing the increasing number of deaths in the hills due to the COVID-19, Thapa said, “this time containing of pandemic does not limit in distributing masks and sanitisers. The need of the hour is updating health system.”

He asserted that he is in regular contacts with Principal Secretary, Health Secretary at Kolkata and other officials at GTA. “As per my information GTA is working towards updating the health system.”

According to the information, Safe homes are being established at Darjeeling, Kurseong, Mirik and Kalimpong. A Help Desk has been installed at Siliguri with 24X7 help for the people of GTA who needs help at Siliguri for the treatment of patients. Furthermore, the COVID-19 hospital at Triveni which currently has 150 beds will be upgraded to 180 beds by next week. Also, 6 CCU beds and 30 beds with oxygen supply has been installed for the patients. As of now, 63 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at Triveni hospital.
