Jalpaiguri, 29th August: Madhura Kar, a young powerlifter from Jalpaiguri, has won a gold medal while representing India at the IPF World Sub-Junior and Junior Classic and Equipped Powerlifting Championship held in South Africa.
Madhura is a XII standard student from the 3 No Ghumti area of Jalpaiguri. Her achievement has sparked celebrations among her family, coach, neighbours and local sports enthusiasts.
Earlier this year, Madhura secured second place overall and won a silver medal for India at the Asian Powerlifting Championship in China. She has now followed up that performance with a gold medal at the international championship in South Africa.
Madhura has also established a strong record at the national level. She emerged as champion at the National Powerlifting Championship in Rajasthan in 2024 and successfully defended her winning form by securing the title at the 2025 championship in Maharashtra. This year, she also became champion at the National Bench Press Championship in Faridabad.
With a series of national and international achievements at a young age, Madhura has drawn attention within the sports community. Her family and coach remain hopeful that her consistent performances will help her reach greater heights on the international stage.
