Siliguri, 01st August: Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh listened to the grievances of local residents while attending an East Bengal Fan Club programme in Siliguri on Saturday. Women residing in the BSNL quarters lane near Kanchenjunga Stadium raised several civic and law-and-order concerns.
According to the residents, the area witnesses regular gatherings for alcohol consumption after evening hours. They also alleged that vehicles are parked illegally, causing severe inconvenience to pedestrians and local residents.
Residents further complained about people openly urinating near the drain, creating unhygienic conditions and affecting the safety and daily lives of women and children in the locality.
After hearing the complaints, the minister directed Siliguri Police to look into the matter. Following the instruction, personnel from the Panitanki Traffic Guard reached the spot, inspected the area, and warned drivers against illegal parking. Police also assured residents that surveillance would be intensified to curb anti-social activities in the locality.
Local residents said they had been facing these issues for a long time and expressed hope that the administration’s prompt response would lead to a lasting solution.
