TMCP stage protest in Siliguri College demanding permission to appear in examination

Siliguri, 07th November: The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) staged a demonstration against the college administration’s denial of allowing the third and fifth-semester students to appear for the upcoming examinations.

According to information, the third and fifth-semester students of Siliguri College have reportedly not attended classes in a long time. Consequently, the college administration has prohibited them from taking the exam due to their repeated absences. Generally, the required attendance to be permitted for examinations is at least 75%. Nonetheless, many students have extremely low attendance rates.

In this regard, Abhijit Banerjee stated on behalf of the Student Council that many of the students at Siliguri College travel distances in order to attend classes. Many of them struggle with familial issues. In addition, a lot of college students work at various jobs besides their studies. He further alleged that many professors were not taking the classes regularly which in turn led to a low attendance rate.

On the other hand, the college Principal Sujit Ghosh claimed to have objected to the allegations. He further stated that the absentees were earlier cautioned regarding attending classes. Despite multiple warnings, the students were not regular. As a result, the decision was finalized. However, there will be a guaranteed exception made for students producing a formal condition mentioning the reason behind the absenting.
