Siliguri, 21st August: Four Rohingya were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station. The arrested individuals include two men and two women. The arrested individuals have been identified as Enamul Hossain (23), Noor Kahima (20), Enayet Ullah (23) and Zainu Bibi (21).
According to GRP sources, the four had been living at the Jamtoli and Kutupalong refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, since 2017. They allegedly entered India illegally on August 19.
According to sources, the four allegedly boarded Train No. 22504 Down Kanyakumari-Vivek Express from Guwahati on August 20 with the help of a middleman, intending to travel to Vijayawada.
Based on prior information about their journey and their alleged suspicious activities, an SOG team of NJP GRP conducted an operation at the railway station. The four were detained after their movements raised suspicion during questioning and a search.
Following questioning, they were arrested on charges of allegedly entering India illegally. The four arrested Rohingya were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Friday. NJP GRP is investigating the matter.
