TMCP leader arrested in Siliguri College violence case, sent to 5-day judicial custody

Siliguri, 28th May: Tension continues in Siliguri following a violent clash between Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members over the admission process at Siliguri College two days ago. In connection with the incident, TMCP leader Biswajit Sarkar has been arrested.

According to sources, the clash began on Monday morning when a dispute broke out over setting up a student help desk during the admission process. The argument escalated into a violent confrontation inside the college campus, with members of both groups engaging in a physical altercation.

During the clash, TMCP student leader Vivek Jha sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Siliguri District Hospital. He was later discharged after treatment.

Following an investigation, Siliguri Police examined CCTV footage and arrested Biswajit Sarkar in connection with the incident. He was produced before the court, which ordered 5 days of judicial custody.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify the involvement of others in the case.
