Siliguri, 25th May: Tension prevailed at Siliguri College on Monday after a clash broke out between supporters of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over the setting up of help desks during the admission process.
According to reports, the dispute began over opening help desks to assist students during admissions. The argument between members of the two student organisations later escalated into a physical altercation, triggering tension inside the college campus.
TMCP alleged that ABVP supporters carried out a planned attack and vandalised their help desk during the incident. TMCP student leader Vivek Jha reportedly sustained serious injuries in the clash.
However, ABVP denied all allegations and claimed that the incident was the result of internal conflict within TMCP.
Following the incident, a large police force along with central forces reached the college campus and brought the situation under control. Police and central forces continue to remain deployed at the college, while an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
