TMC MLA Khageswar Roy’s son accused of dowry harassment

Rajganj, 09th January: Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy’s son has been accused of dowry harassment. A complaint has been lodged at Rajganj police station in this regard by the daughter-in-law of the MLA, on Friday.

Pinkidevi, a resident of Dangapada of Maynaguri Road area, stated that she was married to the MLA’s son Diwakar Roy about two years ago. Allegedly, adequate dowry was given to the groom and his family. However, after marriage, Pinkidevi came to know that her husband was an alcoholic. After a few days of marriage, he started harassing Pinkidevi for more dowry. When she refused to ask money to her family, Diwakar Roy allegedly started torturing her every day.

As per the allegations in August 20, 2020, Diwakar Roy came home drunk and physically abused Pinkidevi. He allegedly poured kerosene on her to set her on fire. Luckily, Pinkidevi managed to escape and went to my father’s house. Thereafter several attempts were made to resolve the issue, but to no avail.

Pinkidevi maintained that she wanted to register a case in this regard, but feared the influence of her father-in-law if she did so. Finally, with the help of well-wishers, Pinkidevi approached the police demanding justice.

On the other hand, MLA Khageswar Roy said that in February, Pinkidevi suddenly went to her father’s house and did not return after that. He denied all allegations and accused the BJP of trying to discredit him ahead of the 2021 Bengal Assembly polls.

According to Rajganj Police, Pinkidevi has given her statement at the police station, however, has not filed a written complaint.
