Tirhana Tea Estate workers block road accusing the management of delaying payment of puja bonus

Bagdogra, 11th November: The workers of Tirhana Tea Estate of Bagdogra protested by blocking the Bagdogra-Panighata road accusing the management of delaying the puja bonus.


As per reports, the management of the said tea estate did not clear the pending bonus despite assuring to provide the bonus before Diwali. Earlier, on Friday, the workers protested by closing the estate, however; their demands were not addressed.

Subsequently, the protest was backed by the INTTUC and the workers protested by blocking the Bagdogra-Panighata road on Saturday. Consequently, traffic congestion prevailed in the area. During the protest, the tea workers cautioned that the demonstrations would continue upon failure to dispatch their puja bonus. In this regard, INTTUC District Secretary Ranjan Chik Baraik stated that he was compelled to take to the streets as the plantation management is evading paying the bonus.


The protest resulted in an atmosphere of tension following the road blockade. Later, Bagdogra police arrived at the spot and assured the tea workers. Following the assurance, the tea workers relaxed the road jam.
