Three detained for selling adulterated kerosene marketed as turpentine in Siliguri

Siliguri, 29th July: A team of Special Operations Group of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate and Bhaktinagar Police raided a house on Aashiq Ghat Road under Siliguri’s Ward No. 44 and recovered thousands of litres of adulterated oil sold as turpentine, a huge quantity of empty bottles and fake labels from the house. Three youths were also detained in connection to the racket.


According to the report, the accused had been running the business of manufacturing adulterated turpentine oil in a rented house for a very long time. The oil was allegedly made by mixing kerosene and then was filled in bottles and sold in the market. The oil was apparently sent to paint and hardware stores as turpentine oil at a significantly low price as compared to the market price. Bhaktinagar police have initiated an investigation into the whole racket.
