Three BJP MLAs arrested for staging sit-in protest amidst Bengal lockdown

Siliguri, 16th May: Three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs were arrested today for staging a sit-in protest amidst the lockdown imposed by the state government.

Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee, and Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandamoy Barman staged a dharna in front of the BJP district office in Siliguri Hashmi Chowk on Sunday morning. They demonstrated protesting against the harassment being faced by COVID patients, huge bills, and deaths of patients due to negligence in treatment.

Meanwhile, the Siliguri police reached the spot and asked them to lift the protest as no political programme is allowed to be carried out as per the directive issued by the state government yesterday. However, as they refused to lift the protest, the police arrested the three.

In this concern, the arrested MLAs said that they took such an initiative in the interest of the people and they will continue this movement in the coming days.
