Three arrested with gold biscuits worth crores in Siliguri

Siliguri, 17th August: DRI arrested three smugglers from Siliguri’s Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminus with gold biscuits worth crores. The arrested have been identified as Sekar, Thiagarajan and Srikanth Santhi Veeran. All are residents of Chennai. 


DRI has seized 27 biscuits of 4.482 kg gold whose estimated market value is around Rs 2.15 crore. The three arrested were presented in the Siliguri court today. Where after hearing the argument of the government side, the judge directed to keep the three in judicial custody for 14 days.

According to the information received from DRI sources, the smugglers first brought the gold consignment to Guwahati via Indo-Myanmar and eventually reached Siliguri. The smugglers were trying to take the gold from Siliguri to Kolkata and were about to board a bus from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus last evening.
